Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar talked about his new company during his recent interview with Las Vegas Magazine and how other celebrities like Hollywood actor George Clooney followed in his footsteps by founding a tequila company.
As you probably know, along with his remarkable career as a professional musician, Sammy Hagar is a very successful businessperson and entrepreneur. When Hagar opened his bar, Cabo Wabo Cantina, he created a new tequila bearing the same name, Cabo Wabo Tequila, and then he wanted to sell it all around the world. It soon became the best-selling tequila brand in the USA.
In 2007, Hagar revealed that he would sell 80% of Cabo Wabo Tequila to Gruppo Campari for $80 million. Three years later, he sold the remaining interest to the same company. According to Hagar, his success inspired many celebrities such as legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, actors Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson, and George Clooney, who founded their own tequila companies.
Even though Hagar is proud of his achievements and creating one of the best tequilas in the world, he thinks that it’s funny that George Clooney and others got in the tequila business too. Then, the Red Rocker stated that he chose the right place to launch his new brand, Sammy’s Beach Bar Sparkling Rum Cocktails, because Las Vegas is the place where he can ‘make a lot of noise.’
Hagar said in his interview that:
“I really got into this business because I think I can do a better job, the same reason I got into tequila and the same reason I got into rum. It’s the first sparkling rum cocktail, so I’m in the front right now. In 1988, I started making Cabo Wabo Tequila, one of the first pure agave tequilas, and I’m proud of that.
But it cracks me up when I read something that says George Clooney or somebody started celebrity tequila brands. It’s like, oh really? But to spring into this canned cocktail category, I knew I’d have to make a lot of noise, and Vegas is the place for that.”
