Sammy Hagar Slams David Lee Roth Addressing The Last Experience They Had

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar opened up about the upcoming Sammy Hagar and Friends performance at Cabo Wabo during a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock. After being asked if he invited former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth to Cabo, Hagar revealed that he actually asked Roth to come, however, performing with him in the future seems impossible.

There’s no doubt that two former Van Halen vocalists, Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, aren’t best friends. Both musicians expressed how they don’t necessarily like each other in the past interviews and the rivalry that comes from being two ex-member of the same legendary band doesn’t help their relationship either.

In addition to the obvious competition over their tenure with Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth don’t see eye to eye when it comes to their personal opinions about each other. During a recent interview, the Red Rocker even referred to DLR as a ‘fraud’ who pretends differently on and off stage which is a statement that does a pretty good job at summarizing their relationship.

Despite expressing his dislike for David whenever he has the chance, Hagar also leaves the door open every time when he asked about having a healthy relationship with Roth in the future. Not forgetting to mention it’s Roth who is making things complicated, the former Van Halen singer recently revealed he previously held out the olive branch to his infamous rival.

During a recent interview, Sammy Hagar was asked if he invited David Lee Roth to come to Cabo Wabo and revealed that he actually did for the High Tide Beach Party. Furthermore, Hagar stated that he asked Roth to perform as the headline for the party while he and his band would play for him.

In addition to this, the Circle frontman stated that David Lee Roth wouldn’t agree to go on a tour with him, besides, Hagar stressed the fact that he wouldn’t hit the road with DLR after the last experience. Hagar reminded his fans of the time when they teamed up for ‘Song for Song, the Heavyweight Champs of Rock and Roll,’ a co-headlining tour that kicked off May 29, 2002, at Blossom Music Center near Cleveland.

During the interview, Sammy Hagar said:

“I certainly have. When I did the High Tide Beach Party, I invited Roth. I told him he could headline the whole event. I’d play before him. Not because I feel like I’m less than him, but because I was trying to rope him in. But he’s not a fun guy. He doesn’t play well with others, I don’t think. I think that would be the way to put it. I’m not even sure that he’d want to do a tour again – not that I would, because I definitely wouldn’t, from the last experience.

But I don’t even know if he’d ever want to do that again. I have no idea where his head’s at. But he’s invited anytime, anyplace, anywhere I go. I would play the old Van Halen stuff. Me and Mike – I’d sing background and let Roth do his thing. It’d be awesome. But I’m not sure it will ever happen! It’s so tongue-in-cheek to me, to think about him and I ever doing anything ever again.”

Since fans never imagine David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar together on the same occasion let alone on stage ever again, Hagar’s statement didn’t come as a surprise to many. Due to the fact that every interview brings a new aspect to their relationship, fans are now curious to see what comes next about the current status of the two as well as the unknown facts about their past.
