Sammy Hagar recently shared his thoughts on which musician he would like to switch lives with, even if it was just for a day. The Red Rocker was asked the question during one of his Storytime episodes that he tweeted, and his response was somewhat unexpected.
Hagar, who has had a long and successful career in the rock world, explained that everyone wants to be him, all of his friends and peers. In the episode of Storytime, where he was asked the question, Hagar made it clear that for those reasons, he wouldn’t want to be anyone else other than himself. However, he admitted that if he had to switch lives with someone for a day, it would be John Mayer.
The rocker explained why he chose Mayer, saying he has the best career in the world. The pop star turned blues-rock guitar virtuoso has had a fruitful life, especially when he was young, a huge pop star who broke women’s hearts and made them scream and yell out his name. He added that the bonus would be to be as good a guitar player as Mayer, even if it’s just for a day.

“What a crazy question for someone to ask me; I mean, if I could trade places with any other musician or anyone, who would it be? Even just for a day? Why would you ask Sammy Hagar that? Everyone wants to be me first. Let me start there. All my friends are always going, ‘Man; you got it made, man. We want to be you. We want to be like you.’ So who else would I want to be like? Well, I’d probably say for one day that’s about all that I can handle, maybe John Mayer.”
He added:
“Now, why would I want to be John Mayer for a day? Who wouldn’t? First of all, he’s got the greatest career in the world; he was like the super pop star, you know, young, huge, breaking women’s hearts and them screaming and yelling with all this stuff, and then he gets rich and famous, and then he joins the Grateful Dead well joins the Dead & Company that’s like from here to here which is very interesting because he just gets to play because he’s such a great player. So I’d like to be that good of a guitar player for a day. I would like to have that many beautiful women screaming for me every day, and he just, I don’t know, he’s so good. I would just like to be that good just for five minutes. He can make a ukulele sing.”
Sammy’s choice of John as the musician he would like to switch lives with, even if it’s just for a day, may surprise some. However, Hagar’s reasoning is sound – Mayer has had a highly successful career in music, has won numerous awards, and is regarded as one of the best guitarists of his generation. Despite this, he also made it clear that he wouldn’t want to be anyone other than himself, as being Sammy Hagar is the best thing in the world.
