Sammy Hagar Releases The Personal Song He Kept From Everyone

Sammy Hagar, who has experienced his fair share of ups and downs, released the music video of a song from the Circle’s latest chart-topping album ‘Crazy Times,’ and he took the audience on his life journey. In a recent Instagram post, Hagar shared the release of his most personal song ‘Father Time,’ along with a music video that features a collection of photos illuminating the life he’s lived to date.

The Red Rocker reflected on the personal meaning of the song as he wrote it in his then-home in Maui just after he had celebrated his 70th birthday. The initial lyrics he came up with were so sentimental that he couldn’t ignore them; before he knew it, the song spilled out of him. The track became the hardest song for him to listen back to and to sing, as he couldn’t get through it without choking up, which is why he kept it from everyone for years.

“When I first wrote ‘Father Time,’ I kept it from everyone because it was so personal that I’d get too choked up to sing it,” Hagar wrote to explain the song’s significance. “I wrote it just after turning 70 while I was at our then-home in Maui. That house was my sanctuary in the middle of the jungle, overlooking the ocean, it was just paradise. The words ‘Father Time is over there looking over my shoulder’ just kept going through my head, so I picked up my guitar, and the rest of the song just came spilling out. I turned on my iPhone and recorded it.”

He continued, “I cried my eyes out after I wrote and played it back. It’s the most personal song I’ve ever written, and now, after just turning 75, I’m finally ready to release it.”

The vocalist admitted that because the song is very personal to him and the lyrics are a part of his life story, it was hard to share it with millions of people, who would expect him to also perform it live. Thus, he waited for five years until he felt comfortable sharing his story.
