Sammy Hagar Names The National Anthem Rendition That Teared Him Up

Sammy Hagar recently shared an Instagram video of him reacting to Chris Stapleton’s rendition of the national anthem at Superbowl LVII. Hagar was generous with the compliments while praising the Grammy-winning singer, as he noted Stapleton’s performance might be the best in quite a while.

Each artist who takes the stand to honor the national anthem at the games undoubtedly does their best, as we often get notable renditions. However, there have been times that these performances went beyond ‘notable’ and put a tear in your eyes with the soul in them. Well, that’s how Hagar felt upon hearing Stapleton’s rendition.

The Circle frontman shared a video of him sitting down while enjoying a beer, holding a phone in his hand, and listening to Chris singing. Sammy then pointed out how impressed he was and compared the performance to Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston’s iconic renditions, noting that Stapleton nailed it.

Hagar’s reaction to Chris Stapleton’s rendition of the national anthem:

“Wow, am I the only one to think that’s the best national anthem since Aretha Franklin… maybe Whitney Houston? Wow, Chris [is] killing it.”

However, his fascination with the performance didn’t end there, as he captioned his Instagram post by praising Stapleton and adding how the singer put a tear in his eye and touched his soul with his ‘great’ performance.

The singer’s caption further reflected his fascination with the performance:

“Wow, what a great performance of the national anthem. Chris Stapleton put a tear in my eye, [he] absolutely killed it.”

Upon hearing the Grammy winner’s rendition, Hagar was so impressed that he couldn’t help but share a video full of compliments and appreciation for the singer. For Sammy, it was the best take on the national anthem in quite a while. So, he called it a ‘great’ performance and asked his followers if he was the only one to think so.
