Sammy Hagar Mourns The Death Of The Man Who Introduced Him To Eddie Van Halen
Former Van Halen lead singer Sammy Hagar shared a post on his official Instagram page revealing his farewell message to the Cizeta V16T supercar creator Claudio Zampolli after his passing. Apparently, Zampolli was the person who introduced Hagar to the late guitarist Eddie Van Halen and thanks to him, the musician joined the band as the frontman.
As many of you know, David Lee Roth parted his ways with Van Halen in 1985 and the remaining members of the band quickly started looking for a frontman. After considering many potential replacements, Eddie Van Halen was given the suggestion of Sammy Hagar by his car mechanic, Claudio Zampolli, and following the audition, the band quickly hired Hagar as their lead vocalist.
Being referred to as ‘Van Hagar’ with Sammy in the front, the band had a fruitful time with the Red Rocker as their lead singer since they released four multi-platinum, number one Billboard charting albums, ‘5150,’ ‘OU812,’ ‘For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge,’ and ‘Balance.’ On top of these monumental albums, the band also released nine number-one Mainstream Rock hits in addition to numerous other chart hits.
Sammy Hagar shared a post on his official Instagram page revealing a picture with Claudio Zampolli who recently passed away on July 7, 2021, at the age of 82. In addition to paying tribute to the founder of Automobili Cizeta and his brilliant talent for cars, Hagar also stated that Zampolli was the reason why he ended up being the lead singer of Van Halen in the first place.
Thanks to Claudio Zampolli’s introduction of Sammy Hagar to Eddie Van Halen by giving the guitarist his phone number, Eddie called Hagar from Zampolli’s shop. Within two days, the musician became the legendary frontman of Van Halen we all know today, all thanks to Zampolli who also worked with the whole band members’ cars.
In his IG post, Sammy Hagar captioned:
“Claudio Zampolli was a genius mechanic. Especially Italian high-performance engines. He got me my 512 Boxer (the ‘I Can’t Drive 55’ car), my first new Ferrari, and many more after that. He’s the mechanic in the ‘I Can’t Drive 55’ video. He’s the guy that gave Eddie Van Halen my phone number where Eddie called me from his shop – two days later I was in Van Halen. He was the whole band’s mechanic and took care of all of our cars. He also made his own car the ultra exotic Cizeta.
I remember pulling up into his garage driveway one time with my Daytona Ferrari that wasn’t running well. He heard it coming, stepped out of the office, lifted the hood, and immediately found a spark plug wire that was causing it to run badly. He could hear what was wrong with the car pure fucking genius. Rest in peace, my friend.”
