Rock legend Sammy Hagar recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of touring in an interview featured on Elex Michaelson.
When asked about his upcoming 2026 Las Vegas residency, Hagar explained how the format addresses the difficulties he has faced with traditional touring throughout his career. He emphasized that while performing itself is not the hardest part, the logistics surrounding tours present significant challenges.
“It’s a dream come true for an elderly rock star, you know, that still wants to perform. Because the hardest part of doing a tour and playing shows is not the show itself,” Hagar said. “It’s the packing up and moving into hotels, travel, running around you know, you get to the show late. Some days you don’t even have time to have a good meal.”
Hagar highlighted how a residency format offers a more sustainable alternative to the demanding schedule of traditional touring.
“But with the residency, you get a good night’s sleep. They give you the best rooms on the planet. Great food. You know, Vegas has got the best restaurants in the world are in Las Vegas now. And it just so much easier,” he continued. “You get to rehearse, you get a, I don’t know. To me, it’s a dream come true. It’s extending my touring life. Otherwise, I don’t know if I’d go on tour again and do a, you know, a major tour. I mean, I could go out and do a few shows here and there, but anyway, Vegas the residency, thank you.”
The residency represents a significant shift in how Hagar plans to continue his performing career at this stage of his life. It marks what he views as an ideal solution to the physical and logistical demands that have defined his decades-long career in rock music.
Consequence reported that Hagar’s 2026 Las Vegas residency is titled “The Best of All Worlds” and will take place at Dolby Live at Park MGM. The residency will feature 11 shows across two separate runs: six performances in March (March 11, 13, 14, 18, 20, and 21) and five shows in September (September 18, 19, 23, 25, and 26). This format allows Hagar to maintain a performing schedule without the grueling travel demands of traditional touring.
The show itself is designed as a comprehensive celebration of Hagar’s entire career. Eddie Trunk noted that the residency will feature an all-star band including original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, legendary guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Kenny Aronoff, and multi-instrumentalist Rai Thistlethwayte. This lineup allows Hagar to draw from the full breadth of his catalog. He will span his Montrose days, his solo work, his iconic years with Van Halen, and his more recent Chickenfoot project.
Sammy Hagar’s official Red Rocker website revealed that the 2026 residency is a return engagement following successful runs in 2025 under the same show title. The residency has been framed by Hagar and his team as a major career highlight and a “retirement-style” project focused on performing the breadth of his catalog live. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the Park MGM event page. Doors open at 7:00 PM and shows begin at 8:00 PM on listed dates.
For fans looking to experience Hagar’s career retrospective, the residency offers an opportunity to see the rock icon perform material spanning five decades in a more intimate, sustainable format. This format prioritizes both the artist’s well-being and the quality of the performances.
