Rock legend Sammy Hagar and his family were forced to evacuate from a Hawaiian beach following a tsunami warning. The musician shared his experience on Instagram.

The former Van Halen frontman described the urgent evacuation and praised a local hotel for providing emergency accommodation during the crisis.

‘We got ran off the beach from the tsunami warning last minute, grabbed the dog and headed up country cause you couldn’t go any other direction,’ Hagar said. ‘Traffic was already stopped!’

The musician went on to express gratitude for the hospitality he and other evacuees received during the emergency situation.

‘Saw The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua pulled in no reservations, they took care of us and a lot of other displaced beach nuts,’ he continued. ‘This is not an infomercial post. This is an honest thank you for the hospitality and beauty second to none.’

The tsunami warning that prompted Hagar’s evacuation was part of a broader emergency response across Hawaii following a major earthquake in Russia.

CBS News reported that officials activated Black Hawk helicopters and high-water vehicles to assist with potential rescue operations. This underscored the serious preparations made during the alert. The emergency response demonstrated the state’s readiness to handle potential tsunami threats. Authorities took no chances despite the uncertainty of wave arrival times.

Experts warned that tsunami effects might continue for an extended period as the ocean’s ripples move back and forth. This makes the situation unpredictable for some time. This phenomenon explains why evacuations like Hagar’s were necessary even when immediate danger wasn’t certain. Tsunami waves can arrive in multiple sets over several hours.

The Hawaii Governor’s Office confirmed that the state’s emergency management protocols require immediate coastal evacuations when tsunami warnings are issued. This applies regardless of the estimated wave size. These procedures have been refined over decades following previous tsunami events that affected the Hawaiian Islands.

Hawaii emergency officials gave the all-clear by the afternoon and canceled the tsunami advisory. However, The Independent noted that alerts remained in effect for parts of Japan and South America’s Pacific coast. This highlighted the widespread impact of the seismic event that originated in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.
