Sammy Hagar recently shared insights about his unexpected connection with Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan in a recent Instagram post.
“This pic is the first time I met Maynard James Keenan in Jerome at his bad a** tasting room/restaurant,” Hagar said. “I had no idea what kind of person I was going to meet for the first time, or what we had in common. But I was and still am a serious fan/admirer of all of his creative projects from the ground up, culinary, visionary, musical etc. of this Renaissance man in general.”
“Happy birthday to this crazy áries who’s living up to his astrological, mystical reputation,” he continued. “Tonight, tomorrow, and for the rest of our lives, I’m sure, we will both be eating and drinking well. So today, in your honor, to what we will always do and the things we have in common.”
The growing friendship between the two musicians centers particularly on their shared interests in food and wine.
Keenan has built a strong reputation in both culinary arts and wine production beyond his musical achievements.
Wine Enthusiast highlighted Keenan’s success in Arizona’s wine industry through his ventures: Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars.
Phoenix New Times documented his latest Verde Valley development. The seven-acre property combines a winery, tasting room, and restaurant. This integration showcases the natural connection between local wine and cuisine.
The Tool frontman expanded his culinary presence with the Four 8 Chicken restaurant in Cottonwood. The establishment pairs his sparkling mead with spicy fried chicken. His adjacent Trattoria restaurant serves dishes using produce from his personal garden and greenhouses.
Caduceus Cellars offers wine enthusiasts exclusive ‘omakase’ guided tastings in the Velvet Slippers Club. This service demonstrates Keenan’s commitment to creating unique wine-tasting experiences.
