Sammy Hagar Admits Van Halen’s ‘Feelin’ Reflects His Own Feelings Before Leaving The Band

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar posted the picture of his last studio album with Van Halen, ‘Balance,’ on Instagram and revealed how he expressed his emotional state at that moment with the iconic song titled ‘Feeling.’
As you may recall, the legendary band Van Halen released its tenth studio album named ‘Balance’ on January 24, 1995, which reached number 1 on the U.S Billboard 200 Only a month later. ‘Balance’ was the last one of the four Van Halen studio albums featuring Sammy Hagar as the frontman.
During the period of the album’s release, Sammy Hagar and Eddie and Alex Van Halen were allegedly in an ongoing conflict. They had some disagreements about the songs in the album following by a medical issue regarding Sammy’s pregnant wife. Following their argument on the incident, Hagar was fired from the band. However, Eddie Van Halen later claimed that Sammy was the one who left the band.
Recently, Sammy Hagar posted a picture of Van Halen’s ‘Balance’ album on Instagram which was signed by all four of the band members. However, soon later Hagar realized he forgot to mention that there was also a signature from Gary Cherone, who was a member of Van Halen for a short while. He stated that he will send the signed album to Cherone whom he defined as a good guy and a great singer.
Here is what Sammy Hagar in the caption of his Instagram post:
“26 years ago. All four signatures!”
Hagar later added:
“Ya’ll May think I am blind, sometimes I think I am too. But I didn’t realize that was Gary Cherone’s signature on there with the rest of us that’s fucking awesome I’m sending this to him right now and giving him some love he’s a good guy and a great singer🤙”
Furthermore, in the comment section of Hagar’s post, a fan wanted to know the details of the backstory of Van Halen’s well-known song ‘Feeling.’ In his response to the fan’s question, Sammy Hagar stated that ‘Feeling’ was simply about the way he was feeling at that moment in his career. He mentioned that he and his bandmates weren’t getting along very well then and he was confused about which direction he should go in his life. Apparently, Sammy decided to go with his gut and expressed his feelings within the song ‘Feeling.’
Here’s what Sammy’s fan asked about the story behind ‘Feelin’:
“As a drummer, I am still amazed at some of the sickness Alex put into this record. But what I always enjoyed most was the writing…What if I may ask was the juice behind Feelin’? Probably like listening to Don’t Tell Me more but I can always find air in my lungs to sound like an idiot in my car trying to belt out! The last thing I’ll say is that knowing Eddie was feeling healthy and clean really showed in what he did on those tracks…Sickness!”
To which Sammy Hagar responded:
“‘Feeling’ was just about the way I was feeling then not sure which direction to take in life or in the band we weren’t getting along, and I wasn’t sure what I actually wanted so I just went with my gut. Feeling”
As you may know, the co-founder and renowned guitarist of Van Halen, Eddie sadly passed away on October 6, 2020, after his long battle with throat cancer. His beloved son Wolfgang Van Halen announced the tragic news of his father’s death with a statement on social media platforms.
