Sammy Hagar Admits The Major Problem Of Van Halen’s ‘OU812’ Album

The Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar shared the music video of ‘Finish What Ya Started‘ on Instagram to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Van Halen’sOU812‘ album. Hagar also responded to the fans’ questions about why the album mix was so quiet who also suggested that they should do a remastered version of the album.

Released in 1988, Van Halen’s album ‘OU812’ featured the vocalist Sammy Hagar. Many of the songs from the album have received various reviews about their sound being weak and quiet, which was explained with the bass guitar being in the background.

However, it is not an uncommon situation in music. Metallica‘s fourth studio album ‘…And Justice For All,’ which was released in 1988, also lacked the sound of bass guitar. After the death of their bassist Cliff Burton, the band welcomed James Newsted. Their first album together had received similar reviews as the iconic Van Halen album did.

In his recent Instagram post when asked why the album sounded so quiet, Hagar admitted that they lacked the bass guitar. In the comments of the post, Sammy answered a series of questions about the album’s sound. One of the fans suggested that the album should be remastered and bring the bass forefront, to which Hagar jokingly answered saying that the people involved in the mix may have had some ear problems.

Here is what Sammy Hagar originally stated in the caption of his post:

“Let’s hear it for 33 years of OU812! Celebrate the album’s anniversary with the ‘Finish What Ya Started’ music video.”

One of the Van Halen fans asked:

“Why was this album mixed so quiet?”

To which Hagar responded:

“It really lacked bass for some reason.”

Another fan’s comment was:

“Should remaster the album, make the bass stand out more. ‘Finish What Ya Started’ is by far the best song on the album.”

Here is what The Red Rocker answered:

“The whole album lacked the bass for some reason. I think a few people involved in the mix had some ear problems ha ha ha.”
