Sammy Hagar’s guest appearance on Megadeth’s latest album was something too good to be true. As it seems, this collaboration intimidated even Hagar himself. In a recent Instagram post, the Red Rocker admitted he was daunted to play a guitar solo alongside Dave Mustaine.

“I first met Dave on a radio show in San Jose, California,” Sammy Hagar recalled. “I remember him coming into my dressing room and talking about when he was growing up, he wanted his hair to be like mine. Ha ha, not the expected conversation to have with Dave Mustaine.”

He continued, “We stayed in touch occasionally, then when he reached out for me to sing and play on Megadeth’s version of ‘This Planet’s On Fire,’ I was about sh*t when I heard it. They fucking killed it! I was intimidated as a guitarist to take one of those solo spots, but I squeezed a couple of hot licks in. But no one has ever sung ‘Burn in Hell’ with more conviction than Dave. He owns it now.”

Upon seeing Sammy Hagar’s Instagram post, Dave Mustaine decided to leave a comment as many people thought this was a tribute post and Mustaine died. “Sammy, you are a true gentleman,” the Megadeth icon said, “and working with one of my heroes was truly an honor. However, the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.”

Megadeth covered Sammy Hagar’s ‘This Planet’s On Fire (Burn In Hell)’ in their latest album, ‘The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!’ The band also worked with Hagar on the song, and the Red Rocker played his guitar and sang vocals on a couple of verses. According to Mustaine, the result was super badass.
