Nancy Peart Burkholder announced the passing of Danny Peart through a statement on Facebook. Danny was the brother of legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart.
“On this dreary Sunday it is with great sadness that we share that this past Thursday evening we lost our third Peart man and 2nd brother, Danny, after his year and a half battle with glioblastoma,” Burkholder said. “Danny shared our amazing Peart traits that all of our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and generous spirit.”
“We will be planting a tree at Lakeside Park beside our Father’s tree and Neil’s pavilion,” she continued. “We will have a new award starting at this year’s golf tournament for ‘Sportsmanship’ as this was his true self. It is ironic that his golf team has repeatedly come in 2nd place!”
The loss of Danny Peart adds another tragic chapter to the Peart family’s battle against glioblastoma. This aggressive form of brain cancer also claimed Neil’s life in January 2020.
Documentation from official records revealed Neil Peart’s three-and-a-half-year battle with glioblastoma. Neil served as Rush’s primary lyricist and drummer. His technical prowess and innovative approach to drumming established Rush as one of rock music’s most influential bands.
Lakeside Park holds special significance in Rush’s history. The location inspired one of the band’s early songs. Neil Peart wrote it about his teenage years working at the park.
The family’s decision to place Danny’s tree creates a meaningful tribute. It will stand alongside his father’s tree and Neil’s pavilion. This arrangement unites three generations in a location that shaped Rush’s musical journey.
