Ron McGovney Displays Rare Pictures From Iron Maiden Concert He And James Hetfield Went 40 Years Ago

Metallica‘s original bassist Ron McGovney shared a post on his official Twitter page revealing never-seen-before pictures from the day he and frontman James Hetfield participated in the Iron Maiden concert back in 1981 at the Long Beach Arena.

As many of you might know, Ron McGovney formed his first band named Leather Charm with his childhood friend, future Metallica frontman James Hetfield. Soon, when Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich formed Metallica back in October 1981, McGovney joined their band, becoming the original bassist for Metallica.

Recently, Ron McGovney shared a post on his official Twitter page asking his friend David Marrs if James Hetfield was with them while they were at the Iron Maiden concert along with revealing the picture of the t-shirts they wore which were made by Hetfield.

Here is what McGovney said:

“When Iron Maiden opened for UFO on 8-4-81 at Long Beach Arena, we wore our shirts that James Hetfield made us. Did James go with us to this show David Marrs?”

After a moment of uncertainty, Ron McGovney shared another post revealing that he and James Hetfield went to the Iron Maiden concert together in addition to revealing two never-seen-before pictures from the performance including the band members.

Here is what he said:

“Apparently, James did go with us to that Iron Maiden show at the Long Beach Arena in 1981. Our old friend Pat Scott saw us standing in line. He even sent some photos from the show. Sorry, Ross Halfin. Can’t have ’em all.”
