Tye Trujillo, son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, recently opened up about his unique upbringing and passion for performing live in an interview featured on 101 WRIF.
When asked about how his life compares to other kids his age, the young musician reflected on the extraordinary nature of his experiences and what drives him to continue pursuing music.
“It is kind of insane. Yeah. I’m grateful for it, you know, and always keep pushing myself to keep working on it and keep it going,” he said. “Because I feel like I’m meant to be on that stage.”
Tye also explained what fuels his dedication to music and live performance.
“I think it comes from the feeling of playing live,” he continued. “I think the feeling of seeing other people play live and the feeling of being on stage myself is just I want to keep chasing that feeling and just I want to keep the momentum going.”
The young Trujillo’s passion for live performance has translated into a rapidly developing music career that honors his father’s legacy while establishing his own identity in the industry.
98 KUPD reported that Tye currently plays bass in Suicidal Tendencies, the same band his father performed with before joining Metallica. He also leads his own group called OTTTO. His commitment to the craft has earned him recognition in the music industry, with the announcement of a signature bass pedal called the Tye Trujillo TruDrive Wah with Morley in 2025.
Tye’s connection to Metallica’s musical legacy extends beyond his family ties. Revolver Magazine noted that he contributed guitar parts for Metallica’s iconic song “Master of Puppets” for the popular show Stranger Things. This demonstrated his musical versatility and direct involvement with the band’s legacy from a young age.
The young bassist has maintained an active touring schedule throughout 2025. Noise11 revealed that he has participated in international tours with Suicidal Tendencies, including dates in Australia. He has also opened for Metallica at various shows. This dual role allows him to both support his father’s current band and develop his own presence in the metal community.
