Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman and actor Jared Leto has issued a public denial following serious allegations made against him. A new BBC documentary revealed that four women accused Leto of criminal sexual conduct. The alleged offences are said to have taken place when the accusers were teenagers.
In response to the accusations, Leto issued a firm statement through his publicist, directly addressing the claims made in the documentary.
“I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
The allegations are featured in the BBC documentary titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret. The film brings together a broader group of women who describe a range of alleged misconduct by the Oscar-winning actor and musician.
The documentary features a total of 10 women sharing their experiences. Four of them describe alleged conduct that rises to the level of criminal sexual offences. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place between 2002 and 2016, spanning more than a decade of Leto’s career in Hollywood and music.
The nature of the allegations varies across the accounts. Claims include sexual assault, statutory rape, threats of sexual assault, grooming, and sexually explicit phone calls. Three of the four women who described criminal conduct say they were under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged incidents. One woman specifically alleged that Leto sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old.
The remaining women featured in the documentary describe a separate but related pattern of behaviour, including sexualised phone calls and inappropriate comments. Their accounts are presented collectively as part of a wider investigation into Leto’s conduct over the course of his public career.
Leto, 54, is known both for his acting career and as the frontman of rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club. The allegations now cast a significant shadow over both his personal reputation and his professional legacy.
