Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo recently discussed the band’s potential performances at Las Vegas’ Sphere venue. He shared his excitement about the possibilities in an interview with SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation.

Trujillo expressed his enthusiasm for what the band could achieve at the innovative venue. He particularly highlighted the visual potential of their music.

“I’m already thinking like, imagine this, imagine that, imagine, you know, because Metallica’s music is so visual,” Trujillo said. “I mean, imagine a song like [1986 instrumental] Orion and what you can do with that, you know what I mean? The possibilities are endless.”

The bassist emphasized that discussions are ongoing. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

“So for me, it’s again, like a dream come true. We’ll see what happens,” he continued. “I know we’re talking about it, and hopefully this is gonna happen.”

Trujillo also noted the historic nature of what such a residency would represent for heavy rock music.

“No heavy rock band has done this [referring to performing at The Sphere],” he said. “There’s a lot of history with our music and a lot of, I think, there’s potential for a lot of visual stimulation on this. And I can’t wait to be a part of it. So let’s see what happens, yeah.”

Trujillo’s comments remain speculative. Industry sources suggest Metallica’s interest in the Sphere runs deeper than casual consideration.

AXS TV reported that Metallica is considering a residency at the Sphere for the fall of 2026. This would follow the conclusion of their M72 World Tour. The timing would allow the band to capitalize on their current momentum while exploring new creative possibilities at the cutting-edge venue.

The Las Vegas Sphere represents a revolutionary concert experience that aligns perfectly with Metallica’s theatrical approach to live performance. Vinyl Me Please noted that the venue features a massive 160,000-square-foot wraparound LED screen and immersive sound system capable of engaging all senses. The facility has already hosted major artists like U2 and The Eagles. This has established its reputation as a premier destination for innovative live entertainment.

Trujillo’s bandmate Kirk Hammett has also expressed excitement about the venue’s technological capabilities. Blabbermouth revealed that the lead guitarist has shown particular interest in the Sphere’s use of artificial intelligence and other modern technologies. These could elevate their live performances to unprecedented levels.

The potential residency would mark a significant milestone for heavy metal music at a venue that has traditionally hosted pop and rock megastars. Vinyl Me Please indicated that industry insiders suggest Metallica is close to finalizing plans. No official announcement has been made regarding the groundbreaking collaboration.
