Rob Halford recently shared his memories of Ozzy Osbourne, reflecting on the legendary musician’s character both on and off stage, according to Louder Sound.

The Judas Priest frontman described how Osbourne’s stage presence was distinctly different from his genuine personality. Halford explained the transformation that occurred whenever the Prince of Darkness prepared to perform.

“We toured with him a few times over the years, and something just happened when he was about to go on – he became Ozzy Osbourne,” Halford said. “But then, Ozzy was always Ozzy in a way. I think that’s what we all love about him. There was nobody more genuine, loving and caring than Ozzy Osbourne.”

Halford emphasized that meeting Osbourne in person defied the common saying about not meeting one’s heroes. He praised the musician’s authenticity and generosity.

“You hear, ‘Don’t meet your heroes.’ Ozzy was nothing like that – a pure magic bloke who never forgot his roots in Birmingham. He would give you the shirt off his back,” Halford continued.

Beyond their touring experiences, Halford has also reflected on a particularly memorable studio encounter. This encounter showcased Osbourne’s larger-than-life personality and the chaos that often surrounded him.

When Ozzy Osbourne visited Judas Priest in the studio, he brought what Halford described as “unmitigated chaos” with him, as reported by Louder Sound. The visit became legendary among the band, marked by wild partying and scenes of unbridled mayhem that interrupted their recording sessions. Osbourne reportedly even insisted that a helipad be assembled so he could arrive by helicopter, demonstrating the extravagant nature of his visits.

The studio session became emblematic of Osbourne’s untamed spirit. His refusal to conform to conventional expectations defined the experience. According to Bravewords, the scene was particularly chaotic. Halford recalled: “They were sprawled out in their birthday suits, bottles all over the place… it was a scene!” This vivid description captures the anarchic atmosphere that followed Osbourne wherever he went, blending the boundaries between professional recording and uninhibited celebration.

Halford’s reflections on Osbourne took on added poignance following the legendary rocker’s passing in July 2025. Consequence reported that Halford was deeply affected by the loss, revealing that he “bawled my eyes out for hours” upon learning of Osbourne’s death. The grief was compounded by the knowledge that a historic collaboration between the two would serve as a final tribute to the Black Sabbath legend.

In a fitting farewell, WMGK reported that Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne recorded a posthumous duet version of the band’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” The two singers swap lines in this emotionally significant collaboration. This duet stands as a testament to the deep respect and affection Halford held for Osbourne, transforming their shared history of touring, studio chaos, and genuine friendship into a lasting musical legacy.
