Rob Halford, the legendary frontman of Judas Priest, recently opened up about the importance of faith in his life. He shared his thoughts in an interview featured on WCNC.

The heavy metal icon discussed how faith became crucial to his sobriety journey and daily routine. He emphasized the transformative power of prayer.

“I’ve always been a person of faith, ever since I was a little kid,” Halford said. “But when I became clean and sober 38, 39 years ago, that became really, really vital to me. It’s part of my daily affirmations. I start the day with prayer and I end the day with prayer. And this imagery of how you choose a higher power is left entirely into your own hands.”

The singer went on to advocate for the practice of prayer. He addressed those who might be skeptical about its benefits.

“I just love the idea of prayer,” he continued. “Some people kind of look at it and [wonder], ‘Well, what does it do?’ Well, try it. What have you got to lose? Prayer and praying can bring beautiful peace to your life. It can work miracles.”

Halford explained how this spiritual foundation has contributed to his overall well-being and creative process.

“So, that’s just another facet of what keeps me in this balance and harmony, whereas before I was very fractual and disjointed and disconnected, and broken glass everywhere,” he said. “Now I see much more clearly — my conscious stream is more fluid. There’s nothing interrupting that from a substance or a chemical. The clarity is great for me as a creative person. And so all of that combined makes my day-to-day living a good thing to feel and to be a part of.”

Halford’s journey to sobriety has been a remarkable testament to personal transformation and spiritual growth. It continues to inspire fans and fellow musicians alike.

Loudwire reported that Halford emphasizes living “one day at a time,” a mindset he credits for helping him resist temptations such as alcohol, which still surround him regularly. The metal legend has spoken candidly about the ongoing challenges of maintaining sobriety in the rock and roll lifestyle. Temptations are constant from morning to night, especially while on tour.

The turning point in Halford’s sobriety journey came during a pivotal moment in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Blabbermouth noted that performing clean brought him a sense of elevation and clarity that he had never experienced before. This marked the beginning of his commitment to a sober lifestyle.

Halford has humorously described his ongoing battle with what he calls his “little beer devil” who tempts him to drink. He firmly rejects these urges to avoid reverting to his former “miserable” and unhappy self. Ultimate Classic Rock revealed that he has developed mental preparedness strategies that are key to surviving these challenging moments.

Despite the constant challenges, Halford considers those in the sober metal community some of the strongest people he knows. His decades-long commitment to sobriety has not only transformed his personal life but has also enhanced his creative abilities. This allows him to approach his music with unprecedented clarity and focus.
