Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea recently opened up about a head injury he sustained. He shared the unusual circumstances behind the accident during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The musician explained how what started as a simple bathroom break during a radio show turned into a painful mishap involving a glass door.

“Actually what happened was — it was a bizarre peeing accident. I was doing a radio show for Apple Music the other day. I was playing songs, I was playing a Lee Morgan song, a great song called ‘Stopstart’ with Billy Higgins on drums — this is the real story. Three minutes left in the song, I said, ‘I’ve got to go pee,'” Flea said.

He continued describing the sequence of events that led to his injury.

“I jump up, I run down the hallway, I pee, I’m coming back, I’m wearing my reading glasses, I yell something to someone running full sprint down the hallway, mind you, and bam! Smack into a glass door, flat on my back, blood spurting out of my head,” he explained.

Flea also revealed his initial plan to cover up the embarrassing nature of the accident.

“I’m laying there, and I’m going, ‘Oh, man, I got to do the Fallon show in a few days. I’ll tell him I got in a fight.’ But you know, strangely enough, this is not my first peeing accident. I want you to know that I peed the bed ’til I was 11 or 12 years old. Caused me no shortage of embarrassment,” he admitted.

The incident first came to public attention when fans noticed Flea’s appearance. They began speculating about what had happened to the beloved bassist.

Alternative Nation reported that Flea had shared a battered-looking selfie on Instagram over the weekend. The photo showed visible scratches on his face and a bandage on his head, which sparked widespread fan speculation about the cause of his injuries.

Before revealing the true story behind his accident, Flea initially entertained the audience with an elaborate fictional tale. Alternative Nation noted that he first joked on the show about a martial arts fight. He claimed he used “flying kicks” and a “backflip off a tree” against attackers before confessing it was completely made up.

The bassist’s willingness to share such personal and embarrassing details demonstrates his characteristic openness with fans. His admission about childhood bedwetting issues alongside the recent accident shows how he uses humor to address uncomfortable situations.

The candid revelation showcases Flea’s characteristic humor and openness about even the most awkward personal experiences. He turned what could have been an embarrassing incident into an entertaining story for his fans.
