Rock music has experienced numerous losses over the past years, either from COVID or natural causes. Each of these passings has affected the entire scene, including fans, other artists, and family members. One of these heartbreaking news came from the Specials, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea recently bid farewell to the band’s singer Terry Hall.
“Man, one of my favorites,” wrote Flea in the caption of his Instagram post, in which he shared a picture of Hall. The bassist continued by remembering the first time he heard the Specials singer, saying, “I listened to him on that first Specials record a million times and got my heart touched every one of them.”
Terry Hall went through several traumatic experiences as a child since he had revealed that on a trip to France at the age of 12, he was abducted by a pedophile ring. Not only this, but he had to work various short-term jobs when he was only 15 years old after leaving school.
Hence, Flea referred to these experiences and expressed how he respected Hall’s triumphant career after such incidents. “He came up from a rough childhood,” noted the bassist, “and stepped up the plate to hit a grand f*kken slam. Bless his heart, rest in peace, and love Terry Hall.”
The terrible news of Terry Hall’s passing came via a Twitter post from the band. The Specials stated, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, following a brief illness, of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother, and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters, and lyricists this country has ever produced.”
While the band stated how the musician would be missed and asked their fans to respect the family’s privacy, they didn’t detail the cause of Hall’s death. Fans expect further information from the band or the musician’s family in the following days. In the meantime, Terry’s fellow musicians and fans continue saying their last goodbyes to the singer.
