Red Hot Chili Peppers shared a post on their official Instagram account to announce the release date of the band’s second album in 2022, titled ‘Return of the Dream Canteen.’
Red Hot Chili Peppers have had a strong year with their latest release in April. Their twelfth album ‘Unlimited Love‘ reached number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album’s success allowed their first chart-topping time on the list since 2006’s ‘Stadium Arcadium.’ The lead single, ‘Black Summer,’ also reached the Billboard Hot 100 and even topped Billboard’s Alternative Airplay list.
The band started their stadium tour to support the album. The tour is important also for another reason. This is the band’s first tour with guitarist John Frusciante in fifteen years. He was one of the prominent band members in the 1990s and 2000s and once again returned to the band in 2019.
The new album will be released on October 14, 2022. The album is produced by Rick Rubin, who produced the band’s platinum-selling album ‘Unlimited Love,’ released in April. He also worked with RHCP on many previous albums.
RCHP stated that they were on a quest to find themselves when they started making new songs. Once they got into the flow of making fresh tracks, they couldn’t stop. They added that it was like a dream. After their creative process ended, they had too many songs and didn’t know what to do with them. That’s why they decided to release the songs as two double albums. They also claimed that this project was their heart, soul, and everything they had dreamed of.

We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it, we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long, we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slipstream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking.
It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well, we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first, or should that be reversed. ‘Return of the Dream Canteen’ is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It’s packed.
