When you’re born into a rock and roll dynasty, people often expect you to pick up a guitar, hit the stage, and carry on the family legacy. There’s this unwritten rule that the children of rockstars are destined to follow the same path to keep the rhythm going. But what if these young souls have different aspirations for themselves?
The spotlight might be the same, but the stage is different. Meet Raine Michaels, the daughter of Poison‘s lead singer Bret Michaels. While her dad is known for his rock anthems and bandanas, Raine is making waves in a different world entirely – modeling. You may have heard of Raine, the eldest daughter of Michaels and his ex-partner Kristi Gibson.
The two met in 1994 and had many ups and downs in an 18-year-long relationship that overcame Bret’s brain hemorrhage, brought two daughters into the world even went as far as getting engaged. Although they couldn’t walk down the aisle, Kristi and Bret remained friends and raised their two daughters together after the breakup.
Born to a rockstar father and actress mother, Raine grew up in a home that valued creativity and ambition. She and her younger sister, Jorja Bleu, were raised to pursue their passions, resulting in Raine’s early interest in modeling. As a teenager, she set her sights on one significant goal: to be featured in Sports Illustrated. This wasn’t just a fantasy for Raine; she was determined to make it a reality. As a young teenager, she was drawn to the magazine and the powerful women represented there, like Kate Upton, as she described to Fox News in 2018.
In July 2018, she made her modeling debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit fashion show, a significant step towards her dream. A year later, at 18, she was named a top 6 finalist in Sports Illustrated’s 2019 swimsuit model search competition, bringing her a step closer to her goal.
Raine’s words about her dreams read:
“Sports Illustrated has been one of my goals since I was probably 13 years old. I’ve always wanted to be a part of Sports Illustrated. I loved the magazine. Kate Upton is one of my biggest role models in life. I’ve always loved that they really want to show that it’s all about inner beauty that shines.”
Her story is even more inspiring because she has followed her dream while living with a potential chronic health condition. Her father, Bret, has been open about his struggles with type 1 diabetes, and in 2010, it was reported that Raine had prediabetes. Despite this, she has diligently pursued her dreams, demonstrating that personal challenges don’t have to be limiting factors.
In Raine’s journey so far, she has shown us that it’s possible to make a name for oneself, separate from family fame or expectations, even though her father is very supportive of her venture into modeling. And while her journey is still unfolding, she’s definitely a figure to keep an eye on.
