Radiohead fans have been eagerly holding their breaths, waiting for the next project of the enigmatic English rock band. For years, they have been tantalized by rumors and whispers of new music, but the wait has been long and arduous. In a recent interview with NME, Philip Selway gave the good news but stressed they would have ‘to be confirmed’ later.
When we say the wait has been long, we mean it. After the 2016 release of their album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool,’ they’ve continued to release new music, like the 20th-anniversary reissue of their iconic album ‘OK Computer.’ However, it has been clear that each band member has been putting more focus on their solo projects. On top of that, in 2020, they announced a temporary break from Radiohead, causing many fans to wonder if the band would ever be making music together again.
Although their solo projects are also going well, thankfully, Radiohead fans now have reason to be hopeful. In his recent conversation, Selway stated that the band still values their creative collaboration and will make music together again at some point in the future. However, for now, they just want to spare some time to their solo journeys.
The drummer gave hope to Radiohead fans with the following words:
“We have got together, and we’re talking about future plans, but in the immediate future, we’ve all got other projects which we’d all like to see through properly. There’s a collective desire to make music in some form or other amongst the five of us. We all really value that musical relationship, and that’s been there for 38 years. It remains really important to us.
We wouldn’t know anything on that score until we’re all in a room together, and it probably doesn’t have any firm direction until we’re quite a way into it. The short answer to that is: ‘to be confirmed.’
It’s just about finding that scenario when a group of musicians are all of a mind and firing on all cylinders. That is my dream scenario – to be in that spot. That’s my only aspiration.”
Though the exact date remains uncertain, the mere thought of a new Radiohead release is sure to get fans excited. In the meantime, we can look forward to the release of Selway’s solo album, ‘Strange Dance,’ and get excited for an event that we know will happen in the near future.
