Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan recently provided an update on the band’s ongoing search for a new vocalist. He revealed that they have narrowed down their options to several promising candidates. The update was shared during an interview on the Neil Jones Rock Show.
Bolan explained the extensive process the band has undertaken to find their next frontman. He detailed how they’ve moved from initial video submissions to in-person auditions.
“Well, we got video submissions from over 300 people. And we’ve also had some outside submissions of people telling us, like friends in other bands, ‘Oh, I saw this band. You gotta go check this kid out,’ and stuff like that. So, we’re at the point… We keep doing it in phases,” Bolan said.
The bassist emphasized that while many talented singers have applied, finding the right musical fit for Skid Row remains the priority.
“We watch the video, and there’s a lot of really, really good singers out there. A lot of them are great, but they’re not the right fit musically for Skid Row. But there are a few. So we’ll get the video submissions. Then we’ll go to, ‘Okay, let’s get in a room with a few people over the course of four days,’ bring in two or three people a day. And that’s where we’re at now. We’re moving to that phase with a few guys,” he continued.
Bolan also highlighted the importance of chemistry and personal compatibility beyond just vocal ability.
“We’re gonna bring them in and work for a couple days, see how a live feel to it works. ‘Cause you’re in the studio — you know how it is; you could do a million takes and make it perfect. But we wanna see what it feels like in a room. And then it’s also — it’s the hangout. It’s the hang. It’s, like, ‘Are you cool?’ And see how the hang is. So we’re at that phase with a few guys,” Bolan explained.
The band is taking their time with the selection process. They currently have no immediate touring or recording commitments.
“And we have the luxury of time right now. We have no tours booked. We’re not in the middle of making a record, so we don’t have to make any rush decisions. But there’s a few guys that have really piqued our interest, for sure,” he concluded.
This latest update comes as part of Skid Row’s comprehensive approach to finding their next frontman. This process has been ongoing since early 2026.
Rock 101 reported that Skid Row announced a worldwide audition process to fill the vocalist position in February 2026. The band’s methodical approach reflects their commitment to finding not just a talented singer, but someone who fits their specific musical direction and band chemistry.
The search has generated significant interest from the rock community. Blabbermouth noted that several candidates have genuinely caught the band’s attention during this extensive audition process. The band’s careful vetting process demonstrates their understanding that replacing a vocalist requires more than just vocal prowess.
While the singer search continues, Bolan has been keeping busy with his solo career. 98 KUPD confirmed that the bassist recently released a new song called “Anything But You.” This track is part of his upcoming debut solo album titled “Gargoyle of the Garden State.” This solo work allows Bolan to explore his creative interests while Skid Row takes the necessary time to find their ideal vocalist.
The band’s patient approach to the selection process indicates they are prioritizing long-term success over quick fixes. With no immediate touring obligations or recording deadlines, Skid Row can afford to be selective. They want to ensure their next vocalist will be the right fit for both their musical vision and personal dynamics.
