President’s frontman has criticized comparisons between his masked band and fellow rising masked act Sleep Token. He called such comparisons “lazy” in a statement reported by Louder Sound.

The frontman addressed the frequent comparisons made between the two masked bands. He expressed frustration with what he sees as superficial analysis.

“What a f*cking lazy comparison,” the President frontman said. “I mean, yes, we have the same management, and we both wear masks.”

“Those are both facts… you got me! It’s like, is that it?! That’s all you’ve got? It’s hardly a new thing, is it, wearing masks?!”

The comments highlight the band’s desire to be recognized for their own musical identity. They want to avoid being constantly linked to Sleep Token based solely on their shared use of masks and management.

The frontman’s dismissal doesn’t address the broader scope of comparisons between the two bands. The similarities extend beyond their visual presentation and shared business connections. Critics have noted perceived musical similarities, particularly how both bands craft atmospheric electro-pop verses that shift into djent-laced metal parts. This creates a dynamic sound that has captivated audiences worldwide.

President’s rapid ascent in the music industry has been nothing short of remarkable. Louder Sound reported that the band has rapidly gained over 600,000 Spotify monthly listeners. Singles like “In The Name Of The Father” have been streamed 18 million times. Their success has translated into sold-out shows across major cities including London, New York, and Los Angeles.

The band’s meteoric rise has also secured them a fully booked European headline tour this spring. This demonstrates their growing international appeal. However, this rapid success has not come without controversy. Blunt Magazine noted that rumors have circulated suggesting they are an “industry plant.” These rumors were fueled in part by their high-profile Download Festival 2025 debut.

President shares management with Sleep Token through Future History. This connection has only intensified the scrutiny from fans and critics alike. The PRP observed that while President’s masked presidential gimmick and accompanying rhetoric sets them apart in a sense, the shared management structure continues to draw inevitable parallels between the two acts.

The ongoing debate reflects broader questions about originality and influence in modern metal. Masked personas and genre-blending approaches have become increasingly common among emerging artists seeking to carve out their own space in a crowded musical landscape.
