Placebo Postpone Shows Due To Brian Malko’s Voice Struggles

Placebo delighted their fans by announcing their new single and UK and Ireland tour in the middle of last month. While their tour had been going on for a while, they canceled their December 2 Newcastle show and their December 3 Glasgow gig two days ago. Now, they announced with a recent Instagram post that they also canceled the tour’s remaining dates. This postponement is known to be related to frontman Brian Malko’s unspecified illness affecting his voice.

“Dear Placebo fans,” the post started. “It is with a very heavy heart, great sadness, and regret that we have to announce the postponement of our remaining UK dates – these being: December 5, Dublin 3 Arena, December 7, Cambridge Corn Exchange, December 8, Birmingham 02 Academy.”

The band continued, “We had sincerely and perhaps optimistically hoped that, with some rest, Brian would make a speedier recovery, but this has unfortunately not been the case. Brian saw a doctor again this morning and has been advised that he is not fit to continue the tour and needs complete rest.”

Later in the post, they apologized to the fans for the new development. The band said, “We are so disappointed that we can’t complete our UK run, but please rest assured that we will do everything we can to get these shows rescheduled as soon as possible.”

The announcement further read, “We are so grateful for the wonderful support you have shown us on this tour and for your good wishes and understanding during this difficult period. We are so sorry that we can’t complete the remaining shows; we tried! We will be back soon. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. Ticket holders are advised to hang onto your tickets and await further information.”

The act, which has been in the rock scene for a long time, released their first album, ‘Never Let Me Go,’ after nine years of silence last March. The first two singles of this album were ‘Beautiful James,’ released last September, and ‘Surrounded By Spies.’ That being said, the latter’s inspiration was the frontman Walko’s discovery that his neighbors were spying on him. This sad news came just as Placebo fans were beginning to get their fill of fresh music and energetic live performances.

Forced to cancel their two tours in the past week, the band said they hoped they could resume it in Dublin on December 5, but unfortunately, Walko’s condition doesn’t seem to have improved yet. The recovery process took much longer than they thought, and according to Walko, he had to take a break much sooner because his doctor’s advice was ‘go home and shut up for a week.’ But when he didn’t heed it, he came to almost the point of losing his voice. Now he had to give a break in sadness to prevent further damage to his voice.
