Pink Floyd’s official social media accounts faced backlash from fans after posting a birthday message for Roger Waters, following his recent controversial comments about Ozzy Osbourne. The incident was reported on Instagram.
The birthday post celebrated Waters’ 82nd birthday and promoted his recent tour recording.
Pink Floyd’s birthday message to Roger Waters read, “A very Happy Birthday to Roger Waters, who celebrates his 82nd birthday today. The recording from his 2023 Tour, This Is Not A Drill, performed in Prague, Czech Republic, was recently released in audio and video formats.”
Fans quickly expressed their displeasure in the comments section.
“I love Pink Floyd. Brilliant musicians, and will always be a favorite of mine,” one fan wrote. “But it’s quite disgusting, disrespectful, and disheartening that Waters would verbally attack Ozzy like he did. Especially when he’s no longer with us. Some people make life all about themselves and have no respect or empathy for others, and that’s a shame.”
Other fans echoed similar sentiments, with one commenting: “I love Pink Floyd but Roger dissing Ozzy and Sabbath was low. Ozzy Forever!”
Another fan questioned Waters’ actions directly: “Why did he attack Ozzy??!! Ozzy was a good person. Waters lost his mind long ago.”
The fan outrage stems from Waters’ inflammatory remarks made during a recent interview. He showed complete disregard for the late heavy metal icon and his musical legacy.
Alternative Nation reported that Waters made his controversial comments during an interview with The Independent Ink. He bluntly dismissed Osbourne and Black Sabbath. “Ozzy Osbourne, who just died, bless him in his whatever that state that he was in his whole life… The music, I have no idea. I couldn’t give a f*ck,” Waters said. He added, “I don’t care about Black Sabbath, I never did.” His comments showed complete disrespect for the band widely credited with pioneering heavy metal.
Waters’ comments were particularly insensitive in their timing. Various sources confirmed that Ozzy Osbourne passed away in July 2025. Osbourne was a co-founder and lead vocalist of Black Sabbath. He earned the nickname “Prince of Darkness” and achieved monumental success with over 100 million albums sold globally. He was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing his status as one of rock music’s most influential figures.
The controversy escalated when Jack Osbourne, Ozzy’s youngest son, publicly responded to Waters’ disrespectful comments. Los Angeles Times revealed that Jack fired back at Waters. He defended his father’s legacy and condemned the Pink Floyd co-founder’s lack of respect for the deceased musician.
Noise11 documented that Jack’s initial response was so strong that Instagram labeled it as hate speech. This forced him to update his message. The public exchange between Jack Osbourne and Waters has sparked widespread debate on social media about respect for fallen musicians and appropriate conduct in the music industry.
