Recently speaking to Billboard, Boygenius’ Phoebe Bridgers sparked a friendly challenge as she invited Dave Grohl to a fight over Grammys while discussing their seven nominations.

When asked what it feels like for the three members to be nominated for major awards like Record and Album of the Year with stars like Taylor Swift, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo, and also in rock categories with names like the Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters, Bridgers replied:

“Pretty dope. I think we’re gonna have to fight Dave Grohl in the parking lot.”

Julien Baker And Lucy Dacus Weigh In On The Grammy Buzz

Other band member Julien stepped in and said:

“Yo, we should do that. We should challenge him to beef.”

Following the two, Lucy also shared her thoughts in a humorous tone, explaining:

“Hey, I’ve seen in person how hard he hits the drums; I’m not gonna fight Dave Grohl. His arms are something else. Like, he’s got the muscle, and he’s scrappy.”

Balancing Grammy Nominations With Other Milestones Of The Year

Later in the conversation, they were also asked how the nominations compare to other exciting things Boygenius has done this year, like releasing their album and completing a big tour. Phoebe noted in her response:

“We haven’t fully processed, and Julien keeps pointing out that sh*t keeps happening to us, where you are then confronted with each other or other people being like, ‘How sick is that?!’ Like, I haven’t even had a single private thought about how sick this is yet.”

Bridgers Talks About Grammy Nominations Compared To Solo Career

Bridgers, who previously received four Grammy nominations as a solo artist, is excited about getting more nominations this year, especially because she can share this recognition with her bandmates Baker and Lucy. The singer reflected on this compared to her experience in the 2020-21 Grammy nominations in a recent Zoom chat with Variety:

“It was f*cking COVID when I was nominated, and this is so much more celebratory. I was pretty traumatized last time and the only way I felt it was on the phone. So it’s already way more fun to find out in a room full of people and be celebrating.”

Boygenius has received six Grammy nominations across various categories: Album of the Year and Best Alternative Album for ‘The Record’; Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for ‘Not Strong Enough’ and Best Alternative Performance for the ballad ‘Cool About It.’ Additionally, ‘The Record’ is nominated for Best-Engineered Album, making it the seventh nomination for the record.

Phoebe Bridgers also earned a personal seventh nomination for her participation in SZA’s ‘Ghost in the Machine,’ in the Pop Duo/Group Performance category. The Grammy Awards will be broadcast by CBS from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 4.
