Phil X, current Bon Jovi guitarist, shared his thoughts about performing with former band guitarist Richie Sambora in an interview on Different Stages Radio.

“It was weird. But you know we’re all professionals and we’re all adults so it wasn’t that weird,” Phil X said. “It was kind of like let it be what it’s going to be.”

“Even they called me because it was last minute addition to the whole thing,” he continued. “They said, ‘Hey, so Richie’s going to play ‘Livin’ on a Prayer.’ Is that a problem?’ I’m like, ‘No man. We’re all adults. We can handle anything you know and it’s rock and roll. And it’s for a good cause so who’s gonna back out of that.'”

Both guitarists performed alongside Orianthi, delivering Bon Jovi’s signature hit ‘Livin’ on a Prayer.’

This remarkable collaboration occurred during a significant charitable event. The performance brought together current and former Bon Jovi members in an unexpected reunion.

Guitar World revealed that the performance took place at the Rock For Responders LA wildfire benefit concert. Phil X had been performing throughout the night before Sambora joined the stage.

Guitar Player magazine documented the guitarists’ preparation for the event. They rehearsed ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ the day before. During the performance, Phil X stepped back to let Sambora lead with vocals and guitar.

The collaboration carried special meaning due to the guitarists’ history. Blabbermouth noted Sambora’s departure from Bon Jovi in 2013. Phil X officially became his replacement in 2016.

Phil X emphasized their positive relationship throughout the experience. He confirmed they remained ‘buds before and after’ the performance. Their collaborative spirit showcased both guitarists’ dedication to the charitable cause above any personal dynamics.
