Phil Collins’ son, Nic, will rejoin Mike and the Mechanics after parting ways with The Effect.
“I’m happy to announce that I’ll be back behind the kit with Mike And The Mechanics on the upcoming ‘Looking Back – Living The Years’ 2025 tour!” the drummer wrote in the caption of his post.
He added, “I’m honored to have been asked back and can’t wait to be back on stage with all of the guys. Looking forward to seeing some of you in South Africa, the UK, Austria, and Germany.”
In November, Collins released a new album with The Effect but announced he was leaving the band. He shared the news on Instagram, writing, “The Effect’s self-titled album is out now and available worldwide on your favorite streaming service. A massive thank you to everyone who was involved in the making of this album and for making it possible.”
The musician continued, “Unfortunately, this comes along with the announcement that I have parted ways [with] The Effect. It has been a fun and very rewarding project to be a part of and I’m proud of my contribution on the band’s album.”
“I had a great time collaborating and playing shows with Trev, Em, and Steve and I wish the guys all the best in the future. Thank you to anybody who has supported and followed the band. Your support does not go unnoticed and I’m very grateful,” Nic also noted.
Trev Lukather also talked about Nic and singer Emmett Stang’s departures, saying, “Unfortunately, Nic left the band to pursue his band in Miami and Em had to leave due to financial reasons. I’ve been producing a lot for others which keeps me home and I’ve been playing shows with other amazing artists filing the spot so the universe drifted us all in different directions.”
Collins played with Mike Rutherford during Genesis’s Last Domino? Tour in 2021/22. Later in 2023, Mike invited Nic to drum for The Mechanics on their Refuelled! Tour, as regular drummer Gary Wallis was unavailable.
