Phil Collen Says Def Leppard Constantly Moves Into A Different Phase Like Queen And Rolling Stones

The co-lead guitarist of Def Leppard, Phil Collen, recently appeared in a conversation with Listen Next! He revealed that the band continuously goes through different stages in their music career from the beginning, as Queen and the Rolling Stones did.

Def Leppard has continued its rock music career since 1977 without slowing down. The band achieved great commercial success in the ’80s and ’90s and still kept producing new material. They have accomplished many vital works since the beginning of the 2000s with the records such as ‘X’ and ‘Yeah!’

The band released its self-titled album in 2015, seven years after the 2008 record ‘Songs from the Sparkle Lounge.’ The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the seventh top ten record of the band. They received the Classic Rock Roll of Honours Award for Album of the Year in 2016. In the coming years, they toured with notable bands like Journey.

In 2019, the current Def Leppard line-up was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the past members Pete Willis and Steve Clark. Three years later, the band released its twelfth studio album ‘Diamond Star Halos’ on May 27, 2022. Following that, their long-awaited ‘The Stadium Tour‘ along with Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts kicked off on June 16, 2022.

Talking about the ongoing tour in a recent interview, Phil Collen revealed that his top point is the moment he takes his guitar and stands in front of the crowd. According to him, this tour is excellent, along with the new album and their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Collen also stated that the band is moving to a different phase with each step in their music career.

They achieve everything they dream of one by one, which enables them to level up constantly. He pointed out that their way of climbing up the ladder is similar to other bands like Queen and the Rolling Stones. As he noted, it is a remarkable process for them because that is how they wanted it to be when they started their career.

Phil Collen said the following about the band’s latest tour:

“The first eighteen shows were phenomenal. It was great. People are saying, ‘What’s it like this tour?’ I say, ‘It’s the culmination of everything you want when you first pick a guitar up and going out on the stage in a stadium just seeing it packed, and it’s just awesome and getting to do that.’

We’ve reached that stage, and it’s just really cool, especially with all the other stuff: the brand new album out, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing, just everything. Both two our albums went diamond, and it’s just constantly moving into a different phase as Queen did, the Stones did. We’ve noticed that, and it just feels really wonderful because that’s what you planned when you first started.”
