Peter Gabriel sits down with Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo Entertainment to chat about the importance of music and how it can improve one’s life by sharing that only some musicians write songs with awareness of their subject matter, while most are instinctive.

Gabriel is the executive editor of a new book titled, ‘Reverberation: Make Everything Better with Music,’ based on the fact that as an individual, incorporating the right music into your every day can improve your quality of life. The book also provides specific songs and techniques to get you started in your journey.

While talking about being conscious of the feelings he wants to provoke in the audience, he shared that only certain musicians precisely go after a feeling; otherwise, more often than not, musicians create from their instinct. For him, it’s also rare to focus on one subject matter, but when he was grieving, that was the only feeling he wanted to portray as a result of not finding a body of work that translated his emotions into music which is why he wrote the track ‘I Grieve.’

Peter Gabriel’s words about his songwriting process read:

“I’m sure all musicians have a feel for it, but some are more conscious of it, and normally you know, it’s rare that I will specifically target a thing as I felt when I was grieving I didn’t feel that there was enough stuff around for me, so I tried to write a song called ‘I Grieve,’ and so I think occasionally it’s conscious as that, but normally I think it’s more instinctive.”

The book has just hit the shelves, and if you want to improve your life with the techniques that Gabriel presents, it might be the right book to pick up and give it a chance, especially if you believe in the concept of music having the power to heal and cultivate an intrinsically more productive and happier life.
