A new video from the day Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell attacked Dave Navarro has surfaced. The video was shared by guitar tech Dan Cleary and it shows Farrell’s isolated vocals and how it caused his anger and his ultimate attack on his bandmate.
“He’s in the wrong spot,” Cleary points out in the video. Later in the video, Farrell shares his frustration with the crowd: “F*ck these motherf*ckers. F*ck them, f*ck them. F*ck him.”
Many people reacted differently in the comments section of the video. “To me it seems like he had a moment of realization that everyone sounded good except himself, and threw a temper tantrum because of it,” one user said. “It seems like they turned his mic waaaaaay down because he was in no condition to perform, as you can clearly see here, and he took issue with it,” another wrote.
“He’s lucky they didn’t hit him first. Monitors are designed to hear yourself. In ear monitors should eliminate outside noise. There’s no excuse for this sad display of ‘singing,'” another commenter added.
The video surfaced only a week after the guitar tech confirmed that Farrell attacked Navarro again, this time on backstage.
“He thinks they’re talking about him, which they are, but not in the way he thinks. They’re trying to figure out how to fix this stuff… So he goes over and starts screaming lyrics at them, which was just strange,” Cleary explained in the earlier interview. “Eventually Dave walks up to ask what the f*ck happened, and Perry punches him again […] I feel for [Farrell] because something is going on mentally. He looked crazed. I know this band is over with, but I really do hope that he’s able to figure [things] out.”
The band canceled all upcoming shows and went on hiatus earlier this month after Farrell punched Navarro in Boston on September 13 during their reunion tour. Many fans thought the band was done after the fight on stage.
Farrell’s bandmates said his ‘mental health difficulties’ left them with no choice but to step back for their own safety. His wife, Etty Lau, said Farrell lashed out due to frustration over the mix drowning out his voice and problems with tinnitus and a sore throat.
According to Cleary and Rare Form Radio host Todd Newman, it felt like Farrell ‘quit the band’ before Jane’s Addiction’s North American tour started in Las Vegas on August 9, 2024.
Jane’s Addiction has an album ready to be released, but it’s not clear whether or not the band will stay together after the release.
