The Black Keys recently announced new US tour dates after canceling the 2024 trek.
“After the tour was cancelled, the consensus was, ‘Sh*t happens, and you just have to move through it,'” drummer Patrick Carney said in a statement.
He also revealed their plans for new music, explaining, “We were already on a creative streak, and the best thing we could do, rather than sit at home, was just go back in the studio. Get back to work. So, that’s how the record started.”
The Black Keys haven’t explained exactly why they canceled their tour, but they’ve now announced their return with the No Rain No Flowers Tour, starting May 23 in Durant, OK, and ending June 14 in Asbury Park, NJ. This 13-show tour will be at smaller venues than last year’s planned tour.
Last year, the band planned a 31-date tour from September 17 to November 12 but canceled it four months before it started. Later, they assured fans that both Carney and Dan Auerbach were fine and were just changing their U.S. tour plans.
The duo wrote in a statement at the time, “The band wants to assure everyone that Dan & Patrick are alive and well. Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly.”
“Everyone who had purchased tickets and/or VIP to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded – and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets. Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon,” they added.
The Black Keys played only a few shows after canceling their tour, leading to speculation about low ticket sales. In June 2024, they parted ways with their management team. Days later, Carney spoke out on social media, writing, “We got f*cked. I’ll let you all know how so it doesn’t happen to you. Stay tuned.”
The group released their latest record, ‘Ohio Players,’ in April 2024.
