In a new interview, Hayley Williams sat down with Dolly Parton to discuss her new rock album. During their discussion about the collaborations in Parton’s new album, ‘Rockstar,’ Williams shared her thoughts about the ‘Hannah Montana’ star and clarified why she shouldn’t be underestimated.

Parton mentioned the women singers she worked with for the album, and the two discussed Miley Cyrus’ appearance on it. Hayley said of the collaboration:

“I mean, yours and Miley’s voices are perfect together. You on this song, [‘Wrecking Ball’], it feels like a song that you could have written.”

Parton, clarifying her love for Cyrus, continued:

“Well, I wish I had written that song. Miley, I’m crazy about. I don’t think people even know how talented she is.”

Williams touched on people underestimating Cyrus and shared her own thoughts about the singer. The rocker said while expressing her admiration for the singer:

“Yes. I think what, unfortunately, people do is really underestimate based on presentation or based on the fact that she came from Disney. And she’s already proven that she’s got the chops: She’s a great singer, a writer.”

Hayley Williams’ Support for Cyrus

The Paramore frontwoman has said some nice things about Cyrus earlier as well. Growing up around the singer and her family in her post ‘Riot!’ era, the rocker supported Cyrus during her ‘photogate’ incident. The incident first came on when Cyrus appeared on Vanity Fair in satin sheets, nearly nude. After apologizing for the pictures when they first came out, the singer took her apology back ten years after the incident.

During the time of the scandal, Williams said that she grew up around the Cyrus family and knew that her family would never turn their backs on Miley. In addition, she said that she is a good girl and that she would come out of it strong.

Why Parton Covered Cyrus’ Hit On New Album

On her new upcoming album, Parton wanted to clarify that she had a past with rock as well and not only country, thus making an album filled entirely with rock covers of popular songs, including Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball.’

Referring to the singer as her goddaughter, Parton’s decision to include ‘Wrecking Ball’ apparently comes from her admiration for the song. According to the singer’s words, the hit song made her emotional and ‘hit’ her the same way when she first heard Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You.’

The singer’s album is to drop on November 17.
