Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott On Failing To Sing The Beatles’ ‘I’ve Just Seen A Face’

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott recently spoke on an episode of the band’s ‘Behind The Stadium Tour’ YouTube video series about failing to perform the Beatles song ‘I’ve Just Seen A Face’ during a show.

Currently, Def Leppard is on the road for their twice-delayed Stadium Tour. The fans have been waiting to see the band perform since December 2019, and Leppard was also eager to take the stage for a long time. The tour kicked off on June 16, 2022, and their latest stop was on July 21 at Coors Field, Denver.

During their concert on July 18 in Miami, Florida, Def Leppard wanted to celebrate the Beatles icon Paul McCartney’s 80th birthday by performing their song ‘I’ve Just Seen A Face.’ So, Joe Elliott and the band played the opening lines to the piece and wished Macca a happy birthday.

Recently, on the second episode of Def Leppard’s ‘Behind The Stadium Tour’ YouTube video series, Joe Elliott revealed his thoughts on his performance of the song ‘I’ve Just Seen A Face.’ He said he tried to play the track but failed because he forgot the lyrics and the chords.

Elliott then jokingly said he wouldn’t have passed the audition for America’s Got Talent with his performance. However, the singer said he was happy to get the audience to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to McCartney. Elliott wished McCartney to see this moment on YouTube and know they were thinking about him.

In the video, Joe Elliott said the following:

“I took it upon myself to try and play ‘I’ve Just Seen A Face’ by The Beatles, and I completely bollocked it up. I couldn’t remember the words. I forgot the chords. I wouldn’t have passed the audition for America’s Got Talent, put it that way.

But I did get the entire audience to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Sir Paul McCartney, which was very special. Hopefully, he’ll see it on YouTube or something like that, and he’ll know that we were thinking about him because he’s a big part of our lives.”
