Jack Osbourne recently shared his thoughts on Roger Waters’ previous negative comments about his father Ozzy Osbourne. He expressed unexpected empathy for the Pink Floyd co-founder in an interview on Howie Mandel Does Stuff.

The younger Osbourne’s comments came as he reflected on Waters’ public criticism of Ozzy and his music. He offered a surprisingly understanding perspective on the 81-year-old musician’s behavior.

“You know, here’s how I kind of look at it. I actually have a bit of empathy for the guy. I do. He’s an old dude. You know, I’m not being ageist. I’m not saying that, but like, the guy’s 81. It’s like, man. Well, I don’t know about dementia, but like I just got it,” Jack Osbourne said.

He continued to elaborate on his perspective. He suggested that Waters’ controversial statements might stem from deeper insecurities.

“I had a bit of empathy because it’s like, man, if that’s what you got to do to get attention at 81, you’re insecure enough to where you’ve got to, you’ve got to involve yourself in all these kind of hot-button issues and you’re, you know, you’re throwing your hat in the ring to like go for bat for all these, it’s like, dude, like, haven’t you, like, shouldn’t you just be confident enough in yourself and in your own accomplishments to just be like, hey, I’m just, you know, I do music. That’s great,” he explained.

Jack concluded his thoughts with a more philosophical approach to the situation.

“You know, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Like why? And I felt, I do feel kind of bad for the guy because I think he’s, he’s clearly got some shit going on, you know, the fact that he has to do that,” he said.

The comments provide insight into how the Osbourne family has processed Waters’ previous public criticisms of the heavy metal legend.

Jack’s measured response represents a significant shift from the heated exchange that initially sparked this controversy between the two music families.

The feud began when Waters made disparaging remarks about Ozzy Osbourne’s career and Black Sabbath’s legacy. Recent interviews revealed that Waters called Ozzy’s career “idiocy” and dismissed the heavy metal pioneer’s contributions to music. These comments initially prompted Jack Osbourne to respond with his own profanity-laced defense of his father. This escalated the public dispute between the rock legends.

The situation intensified when Waters appeared on a Piers Morgan interview. He doubled down on his previous statements. The same source indicated that Waters stated he has “no regrets” about mocking Ozzy’s legacy and refused to apologize for his comments. During the interview, Waters even referenced Ozzy’s infamous bat-biting incident. This further demonstrated his unwillingness to back down from his position.

The timing of Waters’ continued criticism has drawn particular scrutiny given Ozzy’s recent health struggles and advanced age. The Black Sabbath frontman has been dealing with various health issues in recent years. This makes Waters’ persistent attacks appear particularly tone-deaf to many observers in the music community.

Despite the ongoing tension, Jack Osbourne’s latest comments suggest a desire to de-escalate the situation through understanding rather than continued confrontation. His empathetic approach contrasts sharply with the initial heated exchanges. It may signal an end to the public feud between the two rock families.
