Black Sabbath has confirmed that “Back to the Beginning,” the concert film capturing Ozzy Osbourne’s final performance with the band, will receive a worldwide theatrical release, according to Instagram.
The announcement highlights the significance of the concert, which took place in the city where Black Sabbath’s story began. It marks the film’s transition from a one-time event to a wider cinema release.
“THE GREATEST DAY IN HEAVY METAL IS COMING TO THE BIG SCREEN,” Black Sabbath said. “The final performance. The definitive farewell.”
The statement continued by inviting fans to experience the historic show once more, this time on the big screen.
“Relive the biggest day in heavy metal history in the place where it all started — now on the big screen,” Black Sabbath said. “Back to the Beginning is in cinemas 28th October.”
The film is set to give audiences worldwide the chance to witness Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell performance in theaters starting October 28. A tight production timeline and an emotionally charged backdrop shaped the project behind that landmark date.
The concert itself took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park, the stadium in Birmingham where Black Sabbath’s journey began decades earlier. The performance carries added weight given the timing. Osbourne passed away just 17 days after taking the stage, and the Villa Park show became his final appearance with the band that made him a household name in heavy metal.
The film is now titled “Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning.” Ben Wainwright-Pearce directs the film; he previously helmed a concert documentary for Taylor Swift. Mercury Studios produced the project. The studio translated the raw energy of the farewell concert into a full theatrical experience for fans who could not attend in person.
Trafalgar Releasing is handling distribution for the film’s global theatrical rollout. The deal positions “Back to the Beginning” for a wide release across international markets. The company specializes in bringing live events and concert experiences to cinema screens, making it a fitting partner for a project of this scale and significance.
Tickets for the film go on sale September 24. Fans will have more than a month to secure seats before the October 28 premiere. The release lands just ahead of Halloween, adding a fitting touch of timing to a film built around one of heavy metal’s most defining farewells.
