Oasis’ Noel Gallagher Recalls John Lydon’s Despise For Liam Gallagher

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, Noel Gallagher shared glimpses of his music taste with the audience and answered several questions. One of his answers referred to memories with Liam Gallagher and John Lydon.
Before the release of the upcoming Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album, ‘Council Skies,’ in June 2023, the former Oasis member was welcomed by Jo Whiley for a Q&A session. During the interview, Gallagher expressed his love for Sex Pistols and recalled an interaction between the band’s lead vocal, John Lydon, and his brother, Liam Gallagher, with whom he is known to have a feud.
The musician explained that Lydon refused to talk directly with Liam even when they were sitting side by side and used Noel as a middleman to ask his questions. Liam did not like this situation and ‘has remained sarcastic towards him.’ Despite that, Noel Gallagher thinks of John Lydon as ‘one of his heroes,’ he claims.
The vocalist recalled the memory as follows:
“We had a funny – well, the night before we met Burt Bacharach, uh, we end up in this hotel with him and Rambo. And for some reason, he didn’t take a shine to Liam. And, uh, Liam was sat beside him, and I was sat beside Liam, and he kept leaning over to ask me questions about Liam but wouldn’t ask Liam. He’s gonna say to me, ‘Ask your singer if he likes wearing makeup.’
As you can imagine, [Liam didn’t take it] very well. And he was being so sarcastic towards him and has remained sarcastic towards him to this very day. But he’s great, John. One of my absolute heroes. A lovely, lovely man, much misunderstood, of course. Sweetheart and a genius and one of the great British people of all times.”
For some reason, John Lydon and Liam Gallagher didn’t hit it off when they met and have remained distant all these years. But still, Noel Gallagher seems to admire and appreciate Lydon and his music and thinks of these interactions as fun memories.
