Noel Gallagher Admits Being Infuriated With 1975 And Matt Healy Winning Best Rock

In one of NME‘s recent interviews, Noel Gallagher of Oasis had a conversation on his new album, artificial intelligence, Robert Smith, Johnny Marr, and The 1975. Gallagher expressed his dismay at Matt Healy of The 1975, winning Brit awards for best rock/alternative act. He told:

“Oasis’ influence, I think, was for people to fucking start a band in the first place. I do meet loads of guys who say that and that’s great. There are a lot of them around, it’s just a pity guitar music has become marginalised. You’ve either got to be rock, or that fucking [The] 1975. At the BRITs, The 1975 won Best Rock or some fucking shit.”

Rock music is changing and turning into something completely different, according to Gallagher. Like the previous one, his next comment on The 1975 being called ‘rock’ was not really optimistic either. The singer continued:

“I was watching it with my kids, two teenage lads, thinking, ‘Is it me being a grumpy old man, or is this shit?’ They were both going, ‘Oh no, this is fucking shit’. The 1975, Best Rock Band? Someone needs to re-define that immediately, because that is… I don’t know what that is, but it’s certainly not fucking rock. Whatever rock is, that’s not it.

This is not the first time Gallagher stated his enmity on Healy. Interviewed by The Spin a few weeks ago, initially to talk about his new High Flying Birds album ‘Council Skies’, Gallagher was asked if he saw what Healy said about Oasis, which he responded with:

“Oh, that fucking slack-jawed fuckwit. What did he say?”

As it turns out, Healy is fond of Oasis and thinks they are really cool, stated in the interview. Gallagher, on the other hand, does not want it to be even brought up. He responds to Healy’s thoughts:

“[…] He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up.”

‘Council Skies’ is out now. Gallagher is now on a US tour with Garbage, from which he will be returning soon for upcoming UK and European tours. You can see the dates and get tickets here.
