Nita Strauss, touring guitarist for both Alice Cooper and Demi Lovato, clarified that Lovato is a metalhead.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, she was asked about the time she left Alice Cooper’s band to join Lovato as a touring guitarist. “It wasn’t as big a departure as I thought it would be,” the guitarist revealed. “Demi made a really cool rock album, so they hired a rock band to do a rock show.”
The rocker mentioned Lovato’s love for metal music, including Megadeth and deathcore band Bodysnatcher. “Demi’s a metalhead at heart. I’d walk past her dressing room and she’d be listening to Megadeth. She turned me onto this great deathcore band called Bodysnatcher. She’s the real deal.”
Lovato herself also talked about her admiration for certain metal bands earlier. It turns out that her boyfriend at 14 turned her on to metal music, particularly to bands like Job for a Cowboy and Dimmu Borgir.
“The reason why I had this love for it is because metal music — the vocalists do things with their voices that I can’t do,” the singer told Metal Ambassador podcast. “And I can do a lot with my voice, but I cannot do that.”
“‘Entombment of a Machine’ is what started me on Job for a Cowboy,” she said of the metal band. “Just, like, the guitar riffs, the scream in that song when it hits really hard — it was the first song that I realized metal music in a way can be catchy without being a pop song,” she added.
While Lovato has no scheduled shows for now, Strauss is on tour with Apocalyptica. Their next show is on February 11 in Brooklyn, New York.
