Neal Schon recently hinted at upcoming musical projects outside of Journey. He responded to fan requests in a post shared on X.
The guitarist shared a video of himself playing. He addressed a fan’s suggestion about releasing music under different band names with guest singers.
“Manifesting some eastern influence here for a good outcome,” Schon said.
A Journey fan had commented on Schon’s post with specific suggestions for his solo work. The fan wrote, “Come on man, put some of this down with guest singers already! Journey Beyond, Neal Schon Experience, whatever! Some instrumental tracks mixed in, soundtrack vibes. Say yes.”
“It’s coming,” Schon responded when asked about releasing instrumental tracks and collaborations with guest singers.
Schon’s hints about new music come at a pivotal time for Journey. The band prepares for what they’ve announced as their final chapter.
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Journey has announced their 2026 Final Frontier Tour, a 60-stop North American farewell starting in February. The band has been off the road in 2025. This makes the upcoming tour particularly significant for longtime fans.
The timing of Schon’s solo music hints aligns with his work on a potential offshoot project. antiMusic noted that Schon has teased a band titled Journey Beyond, which he describes as “Journey plus Beyond” amid years of ongoing tensions with bandmate Jonathan Cain.
Schon has described the farewell tour as “both a thank you and the beginning of what’s next.” This suggests his solo ventures may represent the next phase of his musical career. Trill Magazine revealed that after 51 years together, Journey is going their separate ways following the 2026 tour.
The exchange suggests Schon may be preparing to release new music independently from his Journey bandmates. He is potentially exploring different musical directions and collaborations as the legendary rock band concludes their decades-long journey together.
