Neal Schon recently addressed Journey’s future and the band’s history in a comprehensive statement shared on Facebook.

The statement reflected on Journey’s evolution through different eras and acknowledged Jonathan Cain’s upcoming departure from the band.

“Dear Friends, as we move into 2026, I want to take a moment to honor the voices, the believers, and the people who helped shape the heart and soul of Journey from the very beginning,” Schon said. “Journey’s original voice was forged with Gregg Rolie, whose vocals, musicianship, and spirit helped define who we were in those earliest days. That foundation mattered—it gave Journey its first identity and set the stage for everything that followed.”

Schon continued to trace the band’s history, crediting manager Herbie Herbert’s influence and the pivotal addition of Steve Perry.

“As the band evolved, longtime manager Herbie Herbert played a pivotal role in encouraging us to expand that sound. It was Herbie who inspired the idea of bringing in a new voice—someone who could take the songs to another level,” he continued. “Years earlier, I had already met Steve Perry a few times, even giving him a ride back to his car after an Azteca show in the city. Life has a funny way of circling back, and that connection ultimately helped lead to one of the most defining chapters in Journey’s history. Steve’s vocals and songwriting helped create a body of work that continues to resonate across generations and remains a cornerstone of our legacy.”

The guitarist also acknowledged other vocalists who contributed to Journey’s journey, including Steve Augeri and Jeff Scott Soto, before addressing current singer Arnel Pineda’s role.

“For the past 17 years, Arnel Pineda has carried these songs forward with passion, respect, and heart. Arnel remains very much a part of Journey, and we’re all looking forward to being back on the road together for the upcoming tour,” Schon stated.

Regarding Jonathan Cain’s departure, Schon expressed respect for his bandmate’s decision while emphasizing the band’s continuation.

“As has been shared publicly, Jonathan Cain has expressed that this tour represents his farewell chapter, and we respect that. What remains constant is the music we have created for you,” he said. “For more than five decades, I have been fortunate to create songs with musicians that became the soundtrack to people’s lives. That is something I’m profoundly grateful for—and something we’re excited to celebrate together on this upcoming tour.”

The statement confirms Journey will continue touring with their current lineup despite Cain’s upcoming departure.

Schon’s reflective message comes as the band prepares for their upcoming tour dates. It marks a significant transition period for the legendary rock group. The guitarist’s comprehensive acknowledgment of Journey’s history demonstrates the band’s commitment to honoring their legacy while moving forward.

Parade reported that Journey has announced a new round of North American dates beginning in early 2026. The tour announcement reinforces Schon’s statement about the band’s commitment to continuing their live performances despite the upcoming personnel change.

The timing of Schon’s statement also coincides with broader industry activity. Parade noted that beyond Perry, Schon’s post acknowledged nearly every era of Journey, naming former members including Ross Valory, Aynsley Dunbar, Steve Smith, and Randy Jackson. This comprehensive tribute highlights the guitarist’s desire to honor all contributors to the band’s five-decade legacy.

Marine Agronomy highlighted that Arnel Pineda has been a pivotal figure in the music industry, especially known for his role as the lead vocalist of the legendary rock band Journey. His continued involvement with the band provides stability during this transitional period.

The band’s ability to maintain their touring schedule and fan base through various lineup changes over the decades demonstrates their enduring appeal and the strength of their musical catalog. Journey’s upcoming tour will serve as both a celebration of their extensive history and a testament to their ability to adapt while preserving their core identity.
