In a recent chat with Canada’s The Metal Voice, Mike Portnoy shared an update on his bandmate James LaBrie’s health status.

“He’s okay, we’re in Biloxi (Mississippi) today and it looks like the show will go on,” the Dream Theater drummer replied when asked about the singer’s health. “So he is doing much better.”

He went on to say, “He really was in bad shape yesterday and couldn’t even speak so unfortunately we had a situation where we had to pull the plug on the show which you know I don’t know if that’s ever even happened with us. Sometimes these things happen.”

“You know a singer’s instrument is their voice and sometimes if you’re really sick, I mean he literally couldn’t even speak, so it was rough but the show will go on today in Biloxi,” Portnoy revealed.

Dream Theater canceled their show in Atlanta, Georgia on February 11 due to illness, according to NME. The band started their 40th anniversary tour on February 7. After shows in Philadelphia, Raleigh, and Nashville, they were supposed to perform in Atlanta but announced on social media that the concert was canceled.

“We regret to inform you that tonight’s show in Atlanta has been cancelled due to illness,” the band shared in a statement. “Here’s a message from James LaBrie.”

The singer told fans, “To everyone attending tonight’s show in Atlanta I sincerely apologise for having to cancel the show tonight due to being sick. I hope to get through this as quickly as possible and resume putting on amazing shows throughout the remaining NA dates. Thank you and see you soon.”

“Stay tuned for more information regarding the rescheduled date for Atlanta, GA,” Dream Theater concluded their message.

Dream Theater started their 40th-anniversary tour on February 7 at The Met in Philadelphia. This tour, called ‘An Evening With Dream Theater,’ is the first in North America since Portnoy rejoined the band. The tour will end on March 22 in New York City.
