Mike Portnoy shared an emotional message about Dream Theater’s future plans following the conclusion of their European Summer Tour. He posted the statement on Instagram.
The drummer reflected on the recently completed tour and outlined the band’s upcoming plans for the remainder of the year.
“Well, that’s a wrap on Dream Theater’s European Summer Tour,” Portnoy said. “It was absolutely, hands down, one of the most amazing tours I’ve EVER done in my career! 2 months filled with so many HUGE metal festivals and some of the most incredible scenic and historic venues I’ve ever had the privilege of playing.”
He praised the tour’s logistics and crew members who made the extensive European run possible.
“6 of the 8 weeks were spent traveling aboard this lovely private vessel, which made it possible for us to play as far and wide from show to show and country to country as we did,” he continued. “But most of all, it was this amazing crew of people that made it possible for us to play every one of these shows for you all across EU for the past 2 months.”
Portnoy expressed gratitude to the fans who attended the shows during Dream Theater’s 40th Anniversary World Tour.
“Which lastly brings me to YOU guys…the amazing DT fans from all over the world! The past 9 months since we’ve kicked off DT’s 40th Anniversary World Tour have provided me with some of the most memorable, emotional shows of my entire career,” he said. “Thank YOU ALL that came to the shows so far to share the love and support which makes it all possible!”
The drummer concluded by revealing the band’s plans for the coming months. He indicated a shift to their Parasomnia tour phase.
“We are about to shift into Parasomnia-mode for the remainder of the year and into the first half of next year, continuing to play as many places as we can with a whole new show and setlists, and we hope to continue to see YOU ALL at these next rounds of shows so we can do it all over again with you,” he said. “C-ya soon.”
Portnoy’s emotional reflection comes at a significant moment in Dream Theater’s history. The band continues to celebrate major milestones while looking ahead to new touring phases.
Loudwire reported that Dream Theater’s Parasomnia tour will feature a full performance of their 16th album, Parasomnia. The tour will include the epic nearly 20-minute closer “The Shadow Man Incident,” alongside classic fan favorites. This represents a significant shift from their anniversary celebrations to promoting their latest musical work.
The upcoming U.S. tour phase is scheduled to run through September and October 2025 with stops in 30 cities. This marks the band’s first full album support tour since Mike Portnoy’s return in 2023. This tour structure demonstrates the band’s commitment to showcasing their new material while maintaining their connection with longtime fans.
Dream Theater’s official website confirmed that their 40th Anniversary Tour will continue with dates across the U.S. and Canada early next year. Portnoy referenced this tour in his statement. This extended celebration allows fans across North America to experience the band’s milestone anniversary performances.
The transition from the European leg to the Parasomnia tour phase represents Dream Theater’s strategic approach to balancing their rich catalog with new material. The band’s ability to maintain such an extensive touring schedule while delivering both anniversary content and fresh album performances showcases their enduring appeal and professional dedication to their global fanbase.
