Michael Sweet shared a post on social media detailing his plans to start a Stryper tribute band.

Sweet posted a statement on Instagram revealing his tribute band plans and shared a list of reasons why it is actually a good idea. Michael explained, “I’m thinking about starting a Stryper tribute band. Here’s why: We could gain weight and no one would even care. If we go bald, does it matter? We could experiment with the color scheme and no one would notice.”

Stryper singer mentioned he believed the tribute band might get more attention from the promoters and added, “We most likely would get booked more easily and get paid more per show. We could do any Stryper song we want (or not) and not hear any negative comments. We could wear wigs and it would be cool instead of corny.” He thinks the tribute band can also make things easier for him when it comes to guitar playing, “I could/would just play guitar and then people might just stop saying to me night after night ‘I never knew you played guitar.’”

Sweet also shares name alternatives for the Stryper tribute band, using a clever play on words, “We could spell Stryper with an ‘i’ and add a ‘p’ and officially go on the books as ‘Stripper.’ And of course, we would bring back Roberts stripper pole so he could swing from it all night long. And last but not least, we could basically live normal lives and not get flack for everything we say, do and or think.”

Earlier last year, Michael Sweet issued a statement on Stryper’s status in the rock industry. He pointed out the importance of Stryper’s success “despite being snubbed by this industry because of who we are and what we stand for.” In his latest post, the singer once again shares a veiled message to the rock industry over Stryper’s challenging but successful career.
