Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe was forced to postpone two shows in Finland after breaking his ribs at this past weekend’s Planet Rockstock festival in Trecco Bay, South Wales, United Kingdom.

The frontman took to Instagram to explain the fan interaction that caused the accident. “As you know, at times I get up on the railing that’s in front of the audience, separating them from the stage, and stand there singing, holding on to people’s hands. I always look for a firm grip but some people don’t realize that I depend on them to stay up there. So now, just as I’m pulling myself up on the railing and before I’d managed to find my balance, the guy whose hand I relied on, suddenly slipped his hand out of mine at the worst moment. I completely lost my balance and fell backwards thinking ‘Oh sh*t, this is gonna hurt!’ I hit my back full force on the edge of the stage and broke my ribs. I got back up on the railing & on the stage & finished the song.”

He added: “Luckily we had only two more songs left. Of course, I finished the set & even did the jump off the bass drum for the last hit. I knew the ribs were busted, as the doctor confirmed when I got back to Finland (after a long, painful trip). Upon my return I also got the flu (of course, ha, ha!) and coughing & sneezing with broken ribs is excruciatingly painful, as you know. But I’m glad nothing worse happened. Thank you all kindly for your wonderful well wishing messages.”

Monroe finished his statement by saying he would be good as new in six weeks.

The statement came a few days after the band shared a separate statement about the matter. Monroe posted the statement on his social media. “Michael was injured this past weekend at Planet Rockstock, resulting in broken ribs. His doctors have said that he will need at least 6 weeks to recover. Tickets for both shows will be valid for the new dates. If you are unable to make it to the rescheduled dates, refunds will be available from point-of-purchase.”

The rescheduled shows are the March 5 and 6 dates in Finland.

Monroe will return to the U.S. West Coast for three special shows in 2025. He will also perform at Count’s Vamp’d, Whisky A Go Go, and Rainbow Bar & Grill after nine years. The April 13 concert at the Rainbow Bar & Grill will be extra special, celebrating the 53rd anniversary of the famous bar on Sunset Boulevard.
