Michael Jackson Son Prince Says Martin Luther King Jr. Inspired His Father

King of Pop Michael Jackson‘s son Prince Jackson shared a post on his official Instagram page celebrating Martin Luther King Day with praising words to him in addition to revealing that Martin Luther was an inspiration to his father, Michael Jackson, both in his work and life.

As many of you already know, Martin Luther King was a Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King’s advocacy for civil rights was mostly appreciated thanks to nonviolent activism.

Since Martin Luther King has become a national icon in the history of American liberalism and progressivism, cities such as St. Louis, Missouri, and other states started to establish annual holidays to honor King back in 1971. As the years passed, Martin Luther King Jr. Day has begun to be celebrated in all fifty U.S. states on January 17, 2000.

For this year’s Martin Luther King Day, Prince Jackson shared a post on his official Instagram page stating that King was and still is a leader when it comes to love and unity, therefore, he inspired so many people including Prince’s father, legendary musician Michael Jackson.

Price stated that Martin Luther King’s message of peace, love, and unity throughout his activism inspired Michael Jackson both in his music and everyday life. Apparently, one of the reasons why Jackson’s vision extended beyond the music and raised awareness for racial diversity and human rights was Martin Luther King.

Here is what Prince said:

“A true visionary if there ever was one. MLK was (and still is) a leader in love and unity. He inspired so many, my father among them. His message of peace, love, and unity inspired my father in his work and his everyday life and in turn inspired me. Thank you for your work, Dr. King. We still have a long way to go but we can look to his principles and teachings to guide us. Happy MLK day everyone”
