Hetfield recently kicked off Metallica’s Las Vegas Sphere residency. He was at Allegiant Stadium to watch the Raiders take on the Kansas City Chiefs. The stadium’s kiss cam found him, and he leaned over to kiss Gillett. The moment drew cheers from the crowd and a mix of humor and well-wishes from fans.

“Get a room James, there’s children here!” a Metallica fan wrote in the caption of the video.

Another fan commented on the video, “There’s someone who really deserved a Super Bowl halftime show.”

Addressing Hetfield’s new relationship, another fan said, “They seem super happy. Happy James is good enough for me. She looks like a beautiful, nice lady.”

The couple announced their engagement in mid-March. Metallica shared the news on Instagram with a photo of the proposal, which took place underwater while the two were scuba diving. Hetfield held up a sign that read, “Adriana Gillett will you marry me?” Gillett later posted the same photos with the caption “She said yes!” She also said they got engaged while swimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th. Hetfield is 62 and Gillett is 45. They had been together for about three years.

The residency, titled Life Burns Faster, opened on Oct. 1. It was first announced as an eight-show run. It has since grown to 24 performances running through March 13, 2027. Metallica became the first metal band to play the venue. The opening weekend drew sold-out crowds of more than 17,000 fans per night. It also earned strong reviews. Critics praised the band’s heavy, career-spanning setlist and the Sphere’s immersive 16K visuals.
